识自我是人类的共同追求。认识自我是每个人的心理发展到一定阶段必然要产生的愿望,也是社会对每个人提出的要求。不能正确认识自我的人,是称不上心理成熟的人的。一个人如果总是不能正确认识自我,那么他就是一个老是长不大的人。
什么是自我?自我的作用何在?人如何认识自我?这一系列问题都困扰了一代又一代的哲人智者。现在人们终于认识到,一个人除了由血肉和各种生理器官等构成的生理自我外,还存在着由个人在社会中所扮演的各种角色所组成的社会自我和一个由各种心理因素构成的心理自我。由于人的自我是由这三方面组成的,对自我的认识通常也相应从此三方面进行。即:认识自己的生理状况(如身体的生长情况、生理特点等);认识自己与外界的关系(如环境对自身的影响,自身在社会中的地位、作用、力量、责任等);认识自己的心理状况(如知识、才能、思想、感情等)。
关于“自我”,还有一种比较流行的分类方法,即认为存在于客观世界中的“我”是真实的“我”;存在于个人主观意识中的“我”,是他(她)自己心目中的“我”,即主观的“我”。所谓认识自我,就是作为识识主体的人去识识那个存在于外部世界的客观的“我”。而主观“我”是认识客观“我”的产物。明白这一点,有助于人们加强自我心理修养。使人不忘主客观的统一。一个心理成熟的人,他头脑中的主观“我”和外界的客观“我”应该基本吻合的。
那么,人们是用什么方法来具体识识自我,使主观的“我”与客观的“我”统一的呢?一般有三条途径。一是从自己以往的经历中认识自我;二是在和别人的比较中认识自我;三是从别人的议论中认识自我。
认识自我,必须“三管齐下”。任何一个途径的偏废,都会造成自我认识的偏差。有的人习惯于从以往的经历中看自我,这样就可能:因过去的成就(例如曾在某次智力竞赛中得过名次)而沾沾自喜,或因以前的失败(例如某次主动交往受挫)而不敢向前。有的人一味地与别人比较,自觉比别人强时,就盲目自大,自感不如人时又产生自卑;而有的人则过分关注别人对自己的评价,以至于别人的片言只语甚或只不过无意中的一个眼神、一声叹息都会搅乱他对自我的认识。可见,认识自我的途径有三条,但每一条都要用好并不容易。因为人只要稍不留意就很容易犯片面性,必须时时提醒自己:认识自我全面些!再全面些!
能十分准确地把主观“我”与客观“我”统一在高水平的人固然是少有的,因而常会造成主观“我”与客观“我”的某些差距。比较理想的认识自我的模式是:从认识自我的三条途径出发,对自我的各组成部分(生理自我、社会自我、心理自我)做全面的考察。人们越是注意全方位地认识自我,就越是与理想模式接近,因而也就越能正确地看待自我。
认识自我,看似与大学生职业选择无多大关系,因为“专业定了,职业也定了,不管一个人怎样认识他的自我,反正他的工作离不开这个范围”。但是,这种貌似正确的看法隐含着一种危险性,那就是可能因为放松自我修养而在从业之后适应不良。如果到那时再来补上认识“自我”的这一课,那么所付出的代价未免太大了。当今人们对刚走上工作岗位的一些大学生有这样的评价:“把自己看得很高,但解决实际问题的本领不大”。因此,有些用人单位宁可要学历低些但无“自视甚高”弊病的中专生,而不愿接受大学毕业生。公正地说,“本领不大”不能全怪大学生。学校和老师在这方面是负有责任的,但“自视甚高”以至造成不良的社会反应,却与有些学生在学期间对自我修养重视不够有很大关系。不能正确认识自我,加上不能控制自我,所带来的直接后果之一,就是处理不好人际关系。而人际关系的好坏,又会直接影响到个人在新步入的工作岗位的实际价值乃至终身的发展前景。
现代社会学者告诉我们,一个人的成功与否,与智商固然有一定的关系,但是,更重要的因素是一个人的情商。正确认识自我,是情商的一个重要组成部分。人贵有自知之明,古人不欺吾也。
