虚拟语气的具体用法

我想造句If intelligent beings were seeing people,they would think that...请问that后面的句子是什么时态？是一般现在时还是虚拟语气中的一般过去时？

这个其实是whether引导的状语从句的省略句。还原为Whether it be learning styles,.....例如：Whether it be bird, fish, or beast, the porpoise is intrigued with anything that is alive.就可以省略whether，再将句子进行倒装成Be it bird, or beast,,,
这种用法其实不仅限于be动词，实意动词也是可以的。
