Tianhou Temple is dedicated to Matsu, Goddess of the Sea, who is worshiped by fishermen and sailors. The temple’s Matsu statue, which was brought from Fujian by a Qing Dynasty general, is known as the “Black-faced Matsu” because centuries of incense has turned her skin black. A copy of Tianhou Temple built entirely of glass was recently pleted near the coast not far from Lukang.

九曲巷这条古色古香的巷弄造得迂回曲折，以保护居民免受冬天强风肆虐。九曲巷中有许多历史悠久的建筑，例如文人雅士聚集交谊的十宜楼，以及一名等待未归夫婿、抑郁而死女子所居的意楼。
