定语从句中，为什么有些情况when、where引导的定语从句前要有介词？

She climbed up to the top of the hill, from where she could have a good view of the whole town.
有一种解释是，where代替了the top of the hill，所以where前要加from才能表示“从……”，然而为什么where本身作为一个可以被介词+关系代词（如from which）代替的结构，前面还要再加上一个介词？这样不就相当于“…from from which she could have…”了吗？
同样的道理，例句：
She went to America two years ago,since when I haven't heard from her any more.
since when也有同样的问题。
所以，“介词+关系副词”有什么特殊的含义，在什么情况下才会用到？

之所以出现介词＋关系副词的情况是因为表达的需要。如你的第一例句中先行词是the top of the hill （山顶），虽然which可以代替它，但是could have a good view 与from the top of the hill相悖。我们只能从山顶那个地方看，而不能从山顶看。类似这样的如：我们不能从窗户看，可以说透过窗户看或从窗户那儿看。这时就出现了from where。第二句也是这种情况，只不过把地点换成了时间。two years ago （两年前），从两年前起 是从那个时候开始，是时间，也不能用since which，which 不能指代那个时候。所以用since when。
最后，你不能在这儿把where ，when 换成介词＋which，它们并非在任何情况下都是相等的。也就不会出现相当于from from which的情况。追答

这个例句：Lily was admitted by a famous unversity in 1990,since which year we have never heart from him. 这个since which year可不可以用since when代替？ 而且since when 是不是也代替了“since [介词] which”？

from where当于“from + 介词短语 ” ，也就是两个介词连用。
from which就相当于from+先行词，意思不同，结构不同。
例句：
1. We stood on the top of the building, from where we could see most of the city.
我们站在楼顶，从所在的楼顶，我们能看到大部分城市。
（这里from where = from on the top of the building）
2. The captain stood at the window, from where he could see nothing but trees.

上尉站在窗前，从所在的窗前，他看到的只有树。

这个就是介词连用了。
from behind the door跟from the door是不一样意思的。
