many和some在作为形容词时，都是表示数量的多少。词义和用法都有不同。
many表示，许多的，很多的。用来修饰可数名词，通常用在否定句和疑问句。例如：
①Not many people can write with the left hand. 用左手写字的人并不多。
②How many birds in the tree？树上有多少鸟？
★与many意思相同，修饰不可数名词时，要用much。例如：
Is there much water in the bucket?桶里有很多水吗？
★在肯定句中表示“很多，许多”时，通常用a lot of，或者plenty of。例如：
My father has a lot of friends.我父亲有很多朋友。
★many也可以用在肯定句中。例如：
Look！（There are）so many birds in the tree！看，树上有好多鸟啊！
some 的意思是“有些，一些，不少，很多” 一般用于肯定句中，来修饰可数名词和不可数名词。例如：
I'm going to buy some bread.我想去买些面包。bread是不可数
There are some ducks on water.水中有一些鸭子。duck是可数
I have some English books.我有一些英语书。book是可数
与some 意思相同，用于否定句和疑问句时，通常用any，例如：
Do you have any books？你有一些书吗？
Do you have any ink？你有一些墨水吗？ ink 不可数
I don't have any ink. 我没有墨水。
综上，many和some还是能找出可互相替换的用法。那就是在肯定句中，修饰可数名词。例如：
There are many books on the table.
There are some books on the table.
