1、when doing用法
When从句的主语和主句的主语是同一个或同一些人时，从句的谓语动词为be动词+doing形式，可以把从句的主语和be动词省略，即用when doing sth是指当做……事情时， 如：
when doing the work,we should be careful.
完整一点的说法是when （we are） doing the work,we should be careful.
当工作的时候，我们要仔细。
2、When后面接do的用法：
（1）when引导状语从句时，通常后面要接从句，当为一般现在时，用do动词形式。如：
when you do your homework，you should be careful.
当你写作业时，你要仔细。
（2）When引导疑问句时，一般现在时
when do you do your homework？
你什么时候写作业？

When，while，if，once，unless，though引导的状语从句，当从句主语和主句主语相同时，可将从句主语删除，动词采用现代分词形式doing。
when后接doing，doing这个动作表示的是正在进行的动作，且和逻辑主语是主动关系。

可以写作When driving a car，you should be alert.

when在英语里有三种词性：

此外，疑问副词when后面加动词不定式to do（注意，when后面没有接动名词doing的用法），可以作句子的主语，表语、宾语等，如：
I don't know when to use the sentence pattern.
