在音位分析中，只涉及一个音素差别的对立体叫做最小对立体。如pen[pen]和ben[ben]。要判断是否是Minimal pair，你就把其中的一个字母换成另一个，看它的读音和意义是否发生了变化。

最小对立体的条件，用通俗的话语来讲，就是意思不一样的两个词语的发音，发音中只有一个音标不同，而且俩音标的位置一样，举个例子：
