Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen! Today we will go and visit the Yuelu Academy! Yuelu Academy is one of the four famous academies in China, and it was established by Zhudong, magistrate of Tanzhou prefecture in 976A.
Dat the time of Northern Song Dynasty. The academy accepted disciples throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
It was only in 1903 that the academy was transformed from a school of traditional Confucian learning to an institute of higher learning and in 1926 it was officially named Hunan University.
岳麓书院建筑特征：
一、建筑格局。
岳麓书院占地面积21000平方米，现存建筑大部分为明清遗物，主体建筑有大门、二门、讲堂、半学斋、教学斋、百泉轩、御书楼、湘水校经堂、文庙等，各部分互相连接，完整地展现了中国古代建筑气势恢宏的壮阔景象。
除建筑文物外，岳麓书院还以保存大量的碑匾文物闻名于世，如唐刻“麓山寺碑”、明刻宋真宗手书“岳麓书院”石碑坊、“程子四箴碑”、清代御匾“学达性天”、“道南正脉”、清刻朱熹“忠孝廉洁碑”、欧阳正焕“整齐严肃碑”、王文清“岳麓书院学规碑”等等。
二、藏书建筑。
藏书楼是体现中国古代书院讲、藏书、祭祀三大功能之一的藏书功能的主要场所，岳麓书院创建始即在讲堂后建有书楼，宋真宗皇帝赐书后更名“御书阁”，元明亦称“尊经阁”，位置有所变动，至清康熙二十六年（1687），巡抚丁思孔从朝廷请得十三经、二十一史等书籍，建御书楼于今址。
