这两个词组都可以翻译为“例如”的意思。我印象最深的一个区别就是它们所处的位置不同，前者such as 只能用在居中，而后者for example 可以用在句子的句首、居中、句末。前者such as 后不用逗号，后者for example 必须用逗号隔开（for example作为插入语可以放在句首、句中或句末，放在句首，其后用逗号；放在句中，前后用逗号；放在句末，其前用逗号。）

1、位置的不同。
（1）such as 只能放于句中，不能独立成句，其后加名词或者名词词组。如：
The world is suffering, such as global warming, and there are many similar events. 全世界正遭到冲击，例如全球变暖，还有很多类似事件。（注意，这里such as 后面是没有逗号隔开的，直接加句子其他成分）
（2）我们再看一个 for example 的例子。
for example 作插入语，可独立成句用，可置于句首、句中或句末。
放在句首，其后用逗号；放在句中，前后用逗号；放在句末，其前用逗号。
句首：For example, pine trees drop pine needles. 例如，松树会掉落松针。（放在句首，其后用逗号隔开）
句中：Let us suppose, for example, that you are married with two children. 比方说，我们假设你成家了，还有两个孩子。（放在句中，前后用逗号隔开）
句末：
The report is incomplete; it does not include sales in France, for example.这份报告不完整，例如在法国的销售情况就没包括进去。（放在句末，其前用逗号隔开）
2、含义方面的区别
这个也是经常考的，我们也需要了解一下。
such as 用来列举同类人或事物中的“几个”例子。如：
We have different pies, such as apple pies, cherry pies, and strawberry pies. 我们有不同的派，例如苹果、樱桃和草莓派。（这里列举了三种派，实际上不止三种派哦）
for example 一般指拿同类人或事物中的“一个”为例。如：
For example, they plant trees. 例如，他们参与种树。（这里列举出来的只有“树”这个种类）
注意：用such as来举例子，只能举出其中的一部分，一般不能全部举出，如果要全部列举出，要改用 namely。
