Watch one hour (a full 60-minutes) of primetime television (does not include Netflix or Hulu where the commercials are removed) and answer the following questions. You will need a clock with seconds and undivided attention during commercials. Grades will be based upon thoroughness and depth of thought.
Name of television show(s) you watched: _______________________________
Day/date watched: _____________ Time watched: _______________
· In a onehour (full 60minute) period, how many minutes were devoted to advertising? How were they distributed throughout the hour?
· What varying lengths were the commercials (in seconds)?
· Was the same product advertised more than once during the hour? Were the repeated commercials identical?
· In a "pod" of several commercials, do you feel that one position is strongest? Is being first the best? Is being last the best? Why?
· How well did the commercials fit with the program? Did the programs and the products have similar target markets?
· Is advertising during prime-time television becoming outdated considering the increase in other outlets that do not allow advertising? Why or why not?
How are advertisers (or how will advertisers) get around TiVo and other programming outlets that do not allow advertising? Please explain.
