英国大学满分都是100分，40分及格。众所周知，英国大学学制为3年(除苏格兰外)，大二、大三的成绩各占最后学位成绩的50%, 大一作为适应阶段分数不计入学位成绩。平均分是采用加权平均的算法，也就是说，每一个成绩都与其对应的学分相联系。英国大学规定，3年平均成绩70分以上为一等学位;50～69分为二等学位，其中60～69为二等学位甲等(又称2.1或者Upper-second class degree);50～60为二等学位乙等(又称2.2或者Lower-second class degree);40～50为三等学位(Third class degree)。一等学士学位 - First Class Honours (First or 1st)高级二等学士学位 - Upper Second Class Honours (2:1)普通二等学士学位 - Lower Second Class Honours (2:2)三等学士学位 - Third Class Honours (Third or 3rd)学士学位 - Pass WIThout honours (Pass)没有获得学士学位 - Fail (no degree is awarded)所以能获得70分就可以拿到一等学位，在英国大学中。特别是优秀的大学中能拿到一等学位的学生占的比例相当小。
