Can you believe that there is a pumpkin big enough for you to eat for a whole week?
Well, Don Fleming can, because he grew it .The pumpkin weighed over 640 pounds!
Fleming sat down to think. What could he do with the giant pumpkin? The answer came to him very quickly. He would turn the pumpkin into a giant jack-o’-lantern!
To get started Fleming asked his neighbour, Dong Small, to help. The two then started to cut through the skin of the pumpkin .They cut for several minutes. Finally, they had a round hole for the jack-o’-lantern’s nose. That nose, by the way, was six inches thick and the size of a watermelon!
For hours the two men worked on the pumpkin. After they cut out the nose, they got to work on the two large eyes then they started to make the mouth. The pumpkin weighed so much that Fleming and Small were afraid to make one large mouth .They cut four smaller holes for “teeth” along the bottom of the face.
After three hours of work, the face was ready. Soon people were running to see it. Kids got a big surprise. They could climb right inside Fleming’s pumpkin and look out.
