两句英语句子说啥看不懂，谁帮解答一下？

第一句，没有复杂句，在英语中逗号可以等于and。Two patterns emerged and they report in a paper in the January issue等于你的那句话。

我觉得这句话既是range的解释又是那个人说的话。。。这种解释没毛病吧，我觉得读起来也不影响理解追问

这两句我后来看懂一部分了第一句应该是emerged是一个分词作状语，前边加了个独立主格。they应该是指代上文的两个人，我没写上下文。然后第二句应该是all over the place是状语表示范围。先不看的话之前应该都是主语，带了两个同位语从句。整句的谓语动词是suggest。宾语是省略连词的宾语从句。
我现在句不知道and that both range怎么翻，不知道跟谁并列。
