The main character of the book is a dog named Buck and the book is narrated from the dog's point of view. Through the eyes of Buck we witness the lives of humans with all of their strengths and foibles.
It may appear to have qualities of a children's tale, but the reality is that The Call of the Wild contains themes of realism to life in the Klondike that include examples of brutality and violence.

The book is unique, because it is written in the eyes of a dog, Buck, who was abducted from North Carolina to Yukon and sold as a sled dog. Buck had to adapt to the harsh climates, harsher treatments and cruel competition in the place that he was forced to call home. He grew, eventually beating his enemies, to become a top sled dog, but was then sold to several other owners. Finally, he had a good master, John Thornton, but his owner was later killed. In the end, Buck ran off to the wild to become the leader of a wolf pack. This book is not just about a dog's life, it's about a creature's fight for survival and finally giving up the good and bad of the modern world for the wildness.

The Call of the Wild, by Jack London, is about a dog called Buck who struggles between civilization and the wild. After being with different masters, it learns "the law of club and fang" and finally answers the call of the wild with a wolf pack. What the author wants to praise is that the fittest will survive.
