在the way+从句中, the way 是先行词, 其后是定语从句，它有三种表达形式：

1、 the way+that 

2、the way+ in which 

3、the way + 从句(省略了that或in which)

在通常情况下, 用in which 引导的定语从句最为正式,用that的次之,而省略了关系代词that 或 in which 的, 反而显得更自然,最为常用.如下面三句话所示,其意义相同.

另外，在当代美国英语中，the way用作为副词的对格，"the way+从句"实际上相当于一个状语从句来修饰全句，如下；

1、the way=as

（1）、I'm talking to you just the way I'd talk to a boy of my own.

我和你说话就象和自己孩子说话一样.

（2）、He did not do it the way his friend did.

你以这样的思路去学：

首先你要明白一点，为什么the way表示“方式方法”时候，后面定语从句的引导词可以有三种方式（注意，the way一定是要表示“方式方法”，如果这里的way就是指“道路”，那么就不存在这样用法了，比如This is the way which I will choose.某些题目可能以此为陷阱，做题目别上当)。按道理说，既然way表示方式，那么后面定语从句就要用how这个关系副词引导，但因为在定语从句中，没有关系副词how，那么我们就只能用that这个词引导，在这里的that，不是定语从句关系代词，而是一个很特殊的用来代替关系副词的that（注意，只有这种特殊情况下that可以用来当关系副词），用in which的话，其实就是定语从句中常见的用一个介词加上关系代词去代替关系副词的情况。

that和in which的意义解释完了，再看“不填”的情况。不填的话，其实比较复杂一些，某些语法书中会说，这句话就不是定语从句了，而是用“the way"这个词组，引出了一句方式状语从句，当然，这个the way同时也是代词，在句子里要做名词性成分的。

这样解释了不知道你是否清楚，其实the way的题目不会考得太难的，你就死记住这三种引导方式就行了。
