汉谟拉比法典实质是维护统治奴隶主阶级的利益。
因为《汉谟拉比法典》是不平等的，残忍的。极力维护私有财产、维护不平等的等级关系。例如法典规定，一个奴隶如果对奴隶主说：“你不是我的主人”那么该奴隶就要遭受奴隶主的残酷暴行。它公开确认奴隶主阶级的统治地位，严格保护奴隶主阶级的利益，并对各种法律关系作了比较全面的规定。所以归起来就是其实质就是：统治阶级意志的体现维护国家政治的工具。

序言：要让正义之光照耀大地，消灭一切罪与恶，使强者不能压迫弱者。
1.If any one ensnare another, putting a ban upon him, but he can not prove it, then he that ensnared him shall be put to death.
若有人诱捕另一个人，将禁令加在他身上，他却不能证明，那诱捕他的必被治死。
2. If any one bring an accusation against a man, and the accused go to the river and leap into theriver, if he sink in the river his accuser shall take possession of his house.But if the river prove that the accused is not guilty, and he escape unhurt,then he who had brought the accusation shall be put to death, while he who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house that had belonged to his accuser.
如果有人控告一个人，被告到河边跳进河里，如果他在河里下沉，他的控告者将占有他的房子。但是如果河流证明被告是无罪的，他毫发无伤，那么带来指控的人将被处死，而跳进河里的人将占有属于原告的房子。
3. If any one bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does not prove what he has charged, he shall, if it be a capital offense charged, be put to death.
如果有人在长老面前提出任何罪名，但不证明他所指控的罪名，他将被处以死刑。
