这句话主要是后半句如何理解？not...any but结构意思？

后半句话的机翻：他们没有承担起研究任何事物的责任，除了那些问题的事实方面。
加上逻辑关系我觉得这样翻译比较好：他所承担的任务，仅仅只是研究了这些问题的事实方面。
