近义词,是指词汇意义相同或相近的词语,如“美好”和“美妙”、“懒惰”和“怠惰”、“枯萎”和“干枯”、“宽敞”和“宽阔”。与“近义词”意思相近的词为同义词。

区别
(1)词义程度的轻重:不少近义词所表示的事物在概念上差不多,但程度上有轻重的分别。如:“信任”、“相信”。“相信”是“认为正确或确信而不怀疑”,程度较轻;“信任”指“相信而敢于托付”,程度较深。
(2)词义的着重点:“诡辩”与“狡辩”同是“无理强辩”的意思。但诡辩重在“诡”,即“欺诈、怪异,用欺诈的手段、奇怪的言辞、似是而非的论证来为自己的谬误辩护”;“狡辩”则着重在“狡”,即“不老实,耍花招,歪曲事实,狡猾地为自己错误的言行进行辩护”。
